About this design:
The Damask rose has been known for centuries as a symbol of beauty, love and devotion. In many biblical tales the damask rose represents the presence of divinity.
As I painted this design my path of creating art to help others heal became crystal clear. Many spiritual teachings from around the world were shown to me; lessons from ancient Egypt and holy stories from Mexico, worlds away with similar messages about trusting intuition, seeing signs and following a life path guided by the principles of beauty, goodness and truth.
In Mexico, the holy story of the Virgin of Guadalupe (the patron saint of Mexico) is one of faith and hope. The Virgin showed herself to an indigenous man, Juan Diego, and asked that a shrine be built so that she might relieve the stress of people who call on her in need. When Juan Diego told the bishop about the apparition and request, the Bishop demanded a sign before he would approve the construction. The Virgin reappeared to Juan Diego and ordered him to collect roses (out of season) in his cloak. When Juan opened his cloak to show the Bishop, dozens of damask roses fell to the ground along with an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe imprinted on his cloak. The shrine was built and Guadalupe became a symbol of faith and devotion for so many struggling and marginalized people.
The damask rose is evidence of a greater spiritual good that comes from a place of hope and compassion. When we choose a path guided by the principles of beauty, goodness and truth, we open ourselves up to receiving universal guidance and are able to receive and share light with those who need it the most.
